11 February 2022
Yesterday, Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility visited the recently upgraded Darwin Road in Kraaifontein. The project included the dualling of a portion of the road and the installation of non-motorised transport facilities to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility directorate partnered with Buh-Rein Property Development for this project. Buh-Rein Property Development owns 3 500 residential opportunities and 2000m2 commercial in the Kraaifontein area.
The recently completed road upgrades included the dualling of Darwin Road from Brighton Road to Mostert Street, with traffic circles at Dan King Road, Mosselbank Street and Mostert Street.
‘We thank residents and all commuters who travel through this growing residential and commercial node for their patience over the last 12 months as we upgraded these roads, which are key links within the road network in Kraaifontein.
‘I am really impressed and excited about the initiative to make use of this innovative building material called RESIN8TM, which is made from plastic waste and improves the performance of concrete structures. I aim to encourage this sort of green initiative with the City’s road infrastructure projects wherever possible.
‘It is also always very encouraging for me to hear about the local labour opportunities projects like these create for some individuals and local enterprises in the respective area,’ says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas
